As we approach the final phase of the campaign, Real Madrid are awaiting the final call on the future of veteran midfielders Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
While Kroos’ renewal appears to be imminent, Real Madrid are unsure about the continuity of Luka Modric amid a lack of game-time.
It was reported earlier that Modric is not happy with his lack of prominence in the team, which may lead to him considering offers from elsewhere this summer. His current deal at Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the season.
Modric’s continuity not ruled out
However, as uncertainty looms over the future of Modric, Jose Felix Diaz (h/t Madrid Zone) has suggested that the player’s renewal at Bernabeu has not been ruled out completely.
The Spanish journalist claims that there is a chance of Real Madrid offering Modric a contract extension, knowing they may require his experience and leadership in the coming year.
Real Madrid, after all, are going through a transitional phase, with players like Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga being groomed to lead the club’s midfield in the years to come.

While these youngsters have done extremely well, they do require guidance from experienced footballing brains such as Kroos and Modric.
Keeping that in mind, Real Madrid have not completely ruled out the continuity of the Croatian veteran despite the fact that the player has not featured prominently in the starting eleven this season.
Modric, for his part, would ideally like to retire at the Bernabeu, especially after spending more than a decade at the club.
During his time at the Bernabeu, the veteran midfielder has won multiple titles, including several Champions League trophies. Last summer, he had also rebuffed lucrative advances from Saudi Arabia, in favour of a stay.
But a lot has changed since then, with Modric not entirely sure Real Madrid would require his services. Therefore, this whole saga has become a wait and watch situation and a lot more details could come out in the coming weeks.
