Perhaps no offseason addition made by the Philadelphia Eagles mattered more to their future success than the agreement of one coordinator in particular.
While the signings of Saquon Barkley and Zach Baun or the draft selections of Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean certainly helped pave the road to their Super Bowl run, the Eagles’ biggest impact came when they chose to hire Vic Fangio to run their defense.
Before coming to Philadelphia, Fangio was run out of Miami with claims of being too hard on players and past the times. His system has worked beautifully here with the Eagles.
And one defensive leader is making it clear just how important Fangio has been. “You hear everybody talk all their crap about Vic and the defense he’s been in.

So shout out to Vic, shout out to Coach Nick [Sirianni] for bringing him in.” Gardner-Johnson’s return also brought a level of physicality and grit to the defensive side of the ball.
After having one of the worst statistical seasons as a group in team history, the Eagles defense currently ranks in the top-five in multiple categories.
