The Oklahoma Sooners are making a strong push for their 2026 recruiting class and could soon secure a key local target.
Mason James, a top wide receiver prospect from Norman North High School, has become a priority for head coach Brent Venables and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones. Coming off an impressive junior season where he recorded 56 catches for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns, James is now one of Oklahoma’s top targets.
Ranked as the third-best player in Oklahoma by 247Sports’ Composite rankings, James has visited the Sooners multiple times and could make his decision soon.
“I am going off feeling,” James said in an interview with On3. “At one point, I was thinking I would commit after my official visits, but I might decide this spring. They were the first to offer me, and from the start, Oklahoma has been consistent and shown me that I’m important to them. That consistency means a lot to me.”
However, Oklahoma isn’t the only school vying for James. Missouri, Washington, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M, and Michigan have all extended offers, and James has had positive visits with several of them.
Despite the competition, Oklahoma remains optimistic about their chances. If James announces his commitment in the spring before other schools can conduct official visits, it would indicate that the Sooners are confident in securing his commitment.
Currently, Oklahoma’s 2026 recruiting class ranks 30th in the 247Sports Composite rankings, with only four commitments so far. Landing James would provide a much-needed boost to the Sooners’ recruiting efforts and help propel the class toward a top-ten finish.
