The Oklahoma Sooners received encouraging news on the recruiting front as 2026 defensive lineman Kamhariyan Johnson unveiled his top-eight schools on social media. Oklahoma remains in the mix alongside powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Miami, Clemson, USC, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Florida.
Johnson, who initially held over 25 offers, has narrowed his list to eight as top programs vie for one of the most promising defensive prospects in the Southeast. According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, Johnson ranks as the No. 397 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 35 edge rusher nationally, and the No. 17 player in Alabama. Meanwhile, 247Sports’ internal rankings place him as a three-star recruit with a strong 88 grade, listing him among the top 40 defensive ends in the country and the No. 18 prospect in his home state.
Regarding his relationship with Oklahoma, Johnson said, “I’m still hearing from them a bit. I’ve been thinking about whether I should go back out there or not, but we still talk.”
Defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis has been Johnson’s primary recruiter, emphasizing the impact he could have in Oklahoma’s defense. “They’ve told me how much they prioritize me and that I would be a great fit for their scheme,” Johnson added.
Johnson has already locked in six official visits: Clemson (May 30), Alabama (June 6), Auburn (June 10), USC (June 13), Ole Miss (June 17), and Miami (June 20). As of now, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for his recruitment, and while he hasn’t set a firm commitment date, he plans to announce his decision after completing his official visits.
When asked what factors will influence his choice, Johnson emphasized fit and opportunity: “I would say the coaches, their scheme, and how well I fit in. I want to use my versatility and have the chance to play early.”
