Alabama football secured a major recruiting victory for its 2026 class last week when five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds committed to the Crimson Tide. Edmonds chose Alabama over Tennessee and Georgia, with Maurice Linguist playing a key role in his recruitment.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke highly of Linguist’s recruiting abilities on Wednesday, calling him “phenomenal.” DeBoer praised Linguist’s energy and presence in the program, noting that his passion is evident not just to staff but also to players. He highlighted how Linguist’s coaching style appeals to both athletes and their families, as he provides care, guidance, and top-level instruction.
Alabama recently rewarded Linguist with a two-year contract extension and a pay raise. He joined DeBoer’s staff after leaving his head coaching position at Buffalo and quickly took charge of a cornerback unit that had been hit hard by the NFL Draft and transfer portal. The team lost key players like Kool-Aid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, and Trey Amos, leaving only one returning scholarship cornerback from the previous season. Despite this, Linguist developed the young group into a deep and high-potential unit, with players like Bray Hubbard, Zabien Brown, Zay Mincey, and Red Morgan expected to make strides this season. Veterans such as Keon Sabb and Domani Jackson add further stability, while talented freshmen Dijon Lee and Chuck McDonald join the mix.
Linguist has also played a crucial role in the 2026 recruiting class, securing commitments from both Edmonds and Gadsden City’s Zyan Gibson, the top two cornerback prospects so far. DeBoer credited Linguist’s success to his strong personality, determination, and high expectations, emphasizing that his approach blends tough love with a genuine desire to help players reach their full potential.
Alabama’s spring practice will continue through April 12, culminating in A-Day at Bryant-Denny Stadium. However, this year’s A-Day will not feature a game and will not be televised, though admission remains free.
