Georgia basketball head coach Mike White has made a significant addition to his roster, landing his first transfer portal commitment of the cycle in former Cal standout Jeremiah Wilkinson. The 6-foot-1 guard, originally from Powder Springs, Ga., made his commitment official via Instagram, marking a promising step for White and the Bulldogs’ program.
Wilkinson had an impressive season at Cal, where he averaged 15.1 points per game and earned ACC Sixth Man of the Year honors. He was also a standout from beyond the arc, leading the team with 60 made three-pointers. His scoring ability and shooting range will provide an immediate boost to Georgia’s backcourt, which has seen several departures through the transfer portal.
Wilkinson’s addition is especially timely, given the losses the Bulldogs have faced. Key players such as Silas Demary, De’Shayne Montgomery, and RJ Godfrey have entered the transfer portal, and Georgia is also expected to lose freshman Asa Newell to the NBA draft. Additionally, guards Tyrin Lawrence and Dakota Leffew have exhausted their eligibility. With these departures, Wilkinson’s experience and scoring ability should help fill some of the gaps in the Georgia lineup.
For White, who guided the Bulldogs to a 20-13 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance last season—Georgia’s first since 2015—recruiting is a key piece of building long-term success. Following the Bulldogs’ early exit from the NCAA Tournament with a loss to Gonzaga, White emphasized the importance of continuing to recruit high-level players to build a sustainable program.
“We’ve just got to continue to recruit high-level players and high-level people, protect our culture every day, continue to get better, continue to develop people and develop players offensively and defensively,” White said after the tournament loss. “I think we generated some excitement this year with our recruiting base. We’ve got a lot to sell at the University of Georgia.”
Alongside Wilkinson, the Bulldogs are bringing in three high school signees: Jacob Wilkins, Kareem Stagg, and Jackson McVey. These new additions, combined with the return of key players, position Georgia to continue growing under White’s leadership.
As Georgia looks to build on its momentum from last season, the addition of Wilkinson, a proven scorer and leader, could be the key to taking the Bulldogs to the next level in the coming seasons.
