Veteran slugger, formerly of the Boston Red Sox, is still without a team for the 2025 season. He played in Boston from 2018 to 2022, where he established himself as one of the league’s premier hitters and earned several All-Star selections.
Despite his impressive track record, the Florida native remains unsigned. That could be due to a variety of factors—his age (37), his contract demands, or simply a lack of interest in older players. Whatever the reason, Red Sox fans know what he brings to the plate: a reliable and dangerous bat any team would benefit from.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller shares that sentiment and recently suggested a few potential landing spots for Him. Among them: the Seattle Mariners, whose offense has struggled mightily.
“Of all the remaining free agents, it’s most surprising that He is still unsigned—and it’s not even close,” Miller wrote. He pointed out that even after a strong run of All-Star seasons from 2018–23, Martinez didn’t land with the Mets until late last spring, signing a one-year, $12 million deal to be their designated hitter.
Miller questioned why a team like the Mariners, currently rotating Rowdy Tellez and Mitch Garver at DH, hasn’t made a move.
Seattle, known for its top-tier pitching, has had a rough start to the season offensively, sitting at 4-8. Adding Martinez could provide a much-needed boost to their lineup.
