The Miami Hurricanes have been heavily pursuing a few top-tier talents in the 2026 recruiting class. Mario Cristobal, the team’s head coach, has his eyes on several players who would help keep the program involved in national championship contention.
One of those targets has been four-star safety Cortez Redding.
Redding, a 6-foot-0 and 170-pound safety prospect hailing from Jonesboro, Georgia, has received a lot of interest from top-tier schools round the nation. He is currently ranked by On3 Sports has being the No. 17 safety prospect in the class, the No. 197 overall player in the nation, and the No. 22 ranked recruit from the state of Georgia.
That being said, on Friday, Miami received a major update on their chances of landing a commitment from Redding.
According to Stephen Wagner, a recruiting expert for On3 Sports, the Hurricanes jumped up to having an 88.9% chance of landing Redding. The next closest behind them is NC State, who is given just a 5.0% chance. Ole Miss is still in the picture with a 3.2% chance.
Outside of Miami, NC State, and Ole Miss, there are quite a few programs who have made offers to Redding. Some of those teams are the LSU Tigers, USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, Auburn Tigers, Tennessee Volunteeres, Florida Gators, and Penn State Nittany Lions.
If Cristobal and the Hurricanes can find a way to beat out all of the competition, Redding projects to have a good chance of becoming a defensive star for Miami.
No timetable has been given for his commitment at this point in time, but this update is a very positive one for the Hurricanes.
