Two days of the 2025 NFL draft have come and gone and the Las Vegas Raiders have yet to draft a quarterback.
This would have been unthinkable just a few months back, but the trade for Geno Smith has made the situation under center in Las Vegas much less dire. However, drafting a quarterback should still be on the table.
Smith is set to turn 35 in October and his three-year deal actually has an out after 2026. As if all that wasn’t enough, Smith has never made it past the first round of the playoffs, so he isn’t guaranteed to get Las Vegas over the hump to a Super Bowl.
With that in mind, Pro Football Focus predicts the Raiders will take a swing on Shedeur Sanders with the No. 108 overall pick, which falls in the fourth round.
“Sanders may be below average in stature and arm talent compared to NFL quarterbacks, but he plays the game cleanly, takes care of the football and is tough as nails with ice in his veins under pressure,” PFF wrote.
We’ve seen some legendary NFL draft slides in league history, but Sanders’ is one of the most notable we’ve ever witnessed. Almost everyone viewed him as a first-round talent, and while some did see him falling to Day 2, I’m not sure even those people thought he’d last into Day 3. Now, we have people talking about Sanders possibly going undrafted.
The Raiders have been heavily linked to Sanders since last year, and his dad, Deion Sanders, has said he wouldn’t mind seeing his son in the Silver & Black. Shedeur also has a positive relationship with owners Mark Davis and Tom Brady.
At this point, the Raiders have to be considering the Colorado quarterback, who had 151 total touchdowns during his collegiate career, on Day 3. He could end up being incredible value this late in the draft, and missing on him with a mid-round pick won’t hurt as much as it would have in Rounds 1-3.
Sanders can sit behind Smith, who would be a great mentor and an invaluable resource for the young quarterback.
