On Friday, Bayern Munich comfortably dispatched of Werder Bremen with a 3-0 win in the Bundesliga. Late substitute Oliver Burke could only helplessly watch on as the Bavarian suffocated every one of Die Werderaner’s attempts to turn the match around. However, the forward believes the Bavarians’ match up against Celtic in the Champions League will not be that easy.
Having spent five months on loan at Celtic in 2019, Burke backs Celtic to put everything on the line in the upcoming match: “Celtic will be far from easy for Bayern Munich. Celtic will give absolutely everything they have against them,” Burke said, as captured by The Celtic Star. They will fight for every ball.
“I think Scottish fans and German fans are similar in culture – that’s why the Scots were so popular in Germany during the [2024] EUROs. They are both a bit crazy – and they like to drink beer!”
Celtic have, of course, already been to Germany in this Champions League campaign, though one would assume the stinging 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund is one few of their fans want to remember. A better memory for the Scottish champions would be their 3-1 win over Rasenballsport Leipzig (thank you, Celtic, for kicking the Cans’ sorry butts) in their own backyard. Now Bayern travel to Scotland and aim to get a result more like Dortmund’s than the sorry spanking the Cans received.
