Real Madrid had an active 2023 summer transfer window as they brought in Jude Bellingham for €103 million, beating Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea for his signature.
They were also in the race for Kylian Mbappe last summer. The Frenchman had communicated to PSG about his decision not to extend his contract and was sidelined due to the same.
Madrid also had to deal with the unexpected departure of Karim Benzema, who joined Al-Ittihad on a free transfer, and then Marco Asensio, who also left on a Bosman move.
Following all of this, one of the moves that created a lot of buzz later in the window was the signing of Arda Guler. Madrid beat Barcelona to his signing, which was part of the reason why there was a lot of noise around him.
After a turbulent first season, though, it seems Guler’s time at Madrid could be, albeit temporarily, coming to an end.
Real Sociedad lurking
While several teams are keeping a keen eye on Guler, Madrid Universal have been informed that Real Sociedad, especially, are looking to sign him in the summer on loan.
They want to repeat the formula of Takefuso Kubo, where they initially loaned in the Japanese wonderkid for a season before striking a €6.5 million deal with Madrid for him in 2022.
Kubo is having a tremendous 2023/24 season, as well, with seven goals and three assists in La Liga across 23 games.
Madrid trust Guler
Carlo Ancelotti has reiterated time and again that Madrid fully trust Guler and that the player will continue to learn and develop at the club.
However, things could get further complicated after Mbappe’s arrival this summer as Brahim Diaz and Rodrygo will fight for a place on the right-wing.
Guler could be reduced to even less minutes, which at 19, is not ideal for any player’s development.
Regardless, with the summer window still a few months away, Madrid could be expected to find the best solution for Guler, with more teams soon to join the race for his signature.
