About the Role

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary Urgent Care Centre team consisting of nurses and paramedic practitioners from various clinical backgrounds.

You will work autonomously and collaboratively to assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with minor illnesses and injuries while contributing to service development, staff education, and quality improvement initiatives.

A structured supernumerary period will be provided to support competency development in adult and paediatric urgent care.

Key Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for:

  • Conducting comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Developing differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Managing minor illnesses and injuries independently.
  • Providing evidence-based patient care.
  • Referring patients appropriately to other healthcare services.
  • Managing more complex patients using ILS/PILS skills where required.
  • Administering medications and treatments under Patient Group Directions (PGDs).
  • Supporting health promotion and patient education initiatives.
  • Supervising junior staff and healthcare assistants.
  • Acting as a mentor for students and newly qualified practitioners.
  • Participating in service improvement, research, and clinical audits.
  • Maintaining accurate patient documentation and records.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Registration as a First Level Nurse or Qualified Paramedic Practitioner.
  • Current NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Relevant experience in:
    • Accident & Emergency (A&E)
    • Primary Care
    • Walk-In Centres (WIC)
    • Urgent Care Centres (UCC)
    • Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Experience supporting staff training and development.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly according to service requirements.
  • Ability to travel independently across Trust sites.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The following qualifications and skills would be advantageous:

  • Degree qualification or evidence of Level 6 study.
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification (V300).
  • Clinical Examination qualification at Level 6 or Level 7.
  • Clinical examination skills.
  • Experience within nurse-led services.
  • Chronic disease management experience.
  • Mental health and children’s nursing experience.
  • ILS, ALS, or PALS certifications.
  • Suturing and wound management skills.
  • Cannulation and venepuncture skills.
  • Ear and eye care experience.
  • Family planning and health promotion experience.
  • Research and audit experience.
